Hello Everyone.

What is the miniumum size tank for a Royal Knifefish, and are they a colour variation of the normal CK or a different species?

How big do they grow, and how are they different to CKs in care?

Royal Knifefish are a separate species, they are Chitala blanci as opposed to common Clown Knifefish which are Chitala ornata.

Royals get to 120cm vs. 100cm for regular Clown Knifes. They are similar care-wise.

I would say you would eventually need a tank with a footprint of at least 8'x3', although I have noticed Royals are quite slow growing compared to regular Clown Knifes and you could probably keep them in a 6'x2'x2' for a couple of years.

Oh yeah, and welcome to MFK. Great to see another Australian member on here.

:iagree: I think a 6x2x2 would be ok most of its life but a bigger one once it gets to 20"<. I would say they are vertually the same as a CK for care, dim lighting makes them a lot more active i find.

Hi Guys.

Few aussies huh? :D.

I would rather get a tank to cater them for life I reacon, saves money, even if it does take a few years or longer. ( teenagers wage LOL )

120cm huh? That pretty big, are you sure an 8x3x3 would do? Are they that flexible?

RCKs grow slower than a CK, IMO. maybe not as slow as a BGK, but pretty slow. But a 375g would be great, but they're pretty flexible.

Really?

They don't look that flexible huh? lol. Anyway, due to a silver arowana's needs it'll be 3.5' wide so thats a fair bit of room.
