I know that certain aro's grow to various sizes, anywhere from 18in-36in.

when ever i bring up that i have a super red and a silver in a 300gl (96x30x24). both are approx 18/26in respectively. on other boards i lurk/post on i get flamed for having those fish (along with a few others) in a tank of that size. my fish are well fed and the filtration is over 3200gph.

i know we have some pretty serious aro keepers here and i'd like to get your opinion(s) on what are minimums for a healthy arrowana.

asian and aussie aros grow to 36"

silvers and blacks grow to 40" i think

arapaimas grow 10 feet i believe (don't quote me on that)

i think the minimum for one aro is generally reccommended a 180 gallon tank, don't know about 2 aros, i think a 155 bowfront would be barely acceptable too since it is very wide at the middle

Dimensions are more important than actual gallons (though it is relative) In a 300 G any aro is fine. The size of your tank (assuming its 30" wide rather than tall) is fine for any aro IMO. You seem to be doing fine. Lets see some PIX!!! i love me some pictures.

i will get pix eventually. i work 60-70 hours a week, 2 year old and a pregnant wife so my time for the internet is limited to say the least. plus, i can't post pix from work so its even harder for me to get them up.

and yeah, it is 30in wide.

actually looking at picking up a tank from a guy at work that is 120lX30wX48h, he has an amazing reef setup in it but is moving to a larger house with a tank built into his entertainment room so he is trying to find someone to pawn it off on.

i think so too.

my biggest beef is that some of these forums preach such a "holier than thou" attitude. all of my tanks have great filtration, regular water changes, etc and these forum nazi's still get crazy.

some say that silver aros get to 4ft but i think you will be lucky to grow one pst 3ft

any asian aro will be fine in a 6x30x24 so its only the silver that may need a little bit more space

i think you should be ok

Even if the silver is a little longer than the tank is wide its still really flexible and coils tight when it turns
mine could straighten itself out when it turns...,but never does
