min tank size for teacup rays

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i would go with 75 for a pair. This is with adequate filtration ( couple of hang ons or canister filters) and regular water changes ( every 3-4 days) . But teacup wont be teacups for long so you would eventually get a bigger tank.

I would say the smallest you can go is a 20g for the time being since these rays are quite sensitive at their sizen so you would have to power feed them in order to have a good chance for them to get big...but keep in mind stingrays get big so you would have to make sure you will have room for them as the grow bigger. I would say 75 -100 is the smallest in the long run...but even then...they can get over 12" in dia.

well hystrix ray stay small
i sold mine at 6"
the biggest i ever saw was 10"
75 for a pair should be fine , keep up on water changes

20-30% should be fine
some might say more
i think i will shock them every 3-4 day with 50% water changes

I do at LEAST 60% with my ray tank every 3 days . Sometimes when i flip out i do 75-80% .... ive generally never had problems with huge water changes like that. Just make sure the water you are putting in is consistent with your tank water. Keeps my nitrate levels low...

why so much water change? are they very dirty fish (poo wise) or are they just extremely sensitive to water conditions?

extremely sensitive to water conditions (nitrateS). They will die immediately if not kept in proper conditions.

I have 2 retics (tea cups) which I keep with discus and large rasbora's in a 6x2x2(feet) they are about 7inches at the moment and doing fine in this sized tank.
I previously had a 15inch diameter retic which would have been ok but the tail was at least 15inches again giving a body lenght of about 30inches hence the reason I gave it to a friend with a larger tank.
