what would say is the absolute min size tank an aro can live in?

What type arowana?

You should be providing a tank that has a length at least 3x the arowanas length and a width/depth at least equal to the aro's length.

i honestly know nothing about aros. id like to get one in the future so id like to know min tank sizes. i guess for diff types of aros i dont know any types other than australian and silver

The most common are the silver aro(South America) and the jardini(Australia). The adult silver will get well over 30" and would need at least a 96x30x24" but would to better in a 96x36x24" tank as a minimum. A jardini will get upto 24" and a 6x2x2' tank would probably work, a 6'x30"x24" would work for sure.
