So, over the last 24 hours, I've lost 2 of my fish - my sun cat and my blue channel cat. They were fine leading up to their death, eating and all...however I did notice some odd things they were doing the night before.

My sun cat ALWAYS hides...except yesterday morning and the night before. He was all over the tank, swimming fast as could be. I came back from dropping my daughter off at school yesterday morning, he was gone.

My blue channel cat hides out under the driftwood in the tank most of the day, unless it's feeding time, or he's just feeling playful...except last night. He came out to eat, and stayed out, swimming I'm and put off the driftwood, up to the bottom of the tank and back down. While it wasn't unusual to stay out for little while, I ignored it. Woke up this morning and he was vertical.

Water parameters checked out ok. The only change I've made us that I've started feeding them tilapia fillets. But the sun cat didn't eat any and the blue channel preferred shrimp pellets or freeze died krill. My rtc and pacus all ate the tilapia and are fine. Doesn't make any sense to me. Anyone have any input?

Here's a picture if the blue channel cat I took this morning. The bucket is a foot across uploadfromtaptalk1329915711064.jpg

Wow, that was a beautiful Chanel, sorry man:(. As for the cause of your fish's death I have no idea. Maybe it was some kind of bacteria on the tilapia.

Thanks man...raised him since he was 3 inches small...got him in October. That thought crossed my mind, but as I mentioned the sun didn't touch it at all...and why haven't any of the other fish shown signs, ya know? The pacu and rtc both ate the tilapia. Like the title, it's simple mind boggling.

That is bizarre bro. Sorry for your loss.

Yeah, I like the title. Maybe the rtc and pacu ate less sensitive to the bacteria, you should probably stop feeding it though.

well, thats just it - I thawed the tilapia in the fridge over night. I don't even use warm water to dethaw my own frozen food. I haven't given them any in the last 2 days only because I like to mix up the diet.
