I have an issue where Minerals show up on everything that holds water. The toilets get build-up, the aquarium lids, around the tank rims, even a net will get some if left over the surface of the water.

Can I solve this problem with an RODI filter? Is there a specific one I should use? I hear they waste a lot of water, so is there an alternative?'

I would be using Fresh Water and stock oscars, pleco, crayfish, etc.

sounds like you have very hard water. a RODI would solve it, i dont think it waste water tho..

RODI water isn't recommended for use on freshwater aquariums. If you use it you either need to mix it with straight tap water or add trace minerals back in the fish need. RODI, especially isn't recommended for use on a whole house. It's very wasteful for one. I'm not even sure they make a unit that would support a whole house. It'd be large and likely very expensive. It does sound like hard water, but you just need to get a water softener to take care of that.

I have a whole house "water treatment system" from RainSoft. The water is a lot better now than it was, but I *still* get build-up on the tanks. Thus, I think that my situation is special and warrants a combination of tap + RO/DI and PH monitoring.

Does anyone have experience with adding minerals to a freshwater tank? Any product recommendations?
