I have just noticed as i was cleaning the tank the other day i have found 3 little brown shelled clam like inverts, not sure if they are but as i went to poke a little, it closed , so im guessing they are.. does anyone know anything about them being, a benefit, hazardous.. anything??!!

Yes, they will be clams...Smaller bi-valves like the ones you can buy in a supermarket fish store...Just basic filter feeders, nothing to worry about..

I heard they can be beneficial in using nitrate? not sure if this is true but if thats the case, sounds like a good thing to have in a sump.
i think it's more preventing nitrates than using them
they eat up all the little suspended food and carud particles,, using them for food instead of rotting and eventually turning into nitrates
