I have a 225 gal. tank. Filters are one 40 gal. wet/dry sump with a 2400 GPH pump and one FX 5 can filter. The tank has been running since last Dec. and now is stocked about half way. Im new to the hole wet/dry filter thing so there are some things i would do dif. like better mech. filtration. On Sat. i decided to clean the wet/dry because there was allot of light brown waist in and under the bio balls. I drained the wet/dry, pulled it out of my stand, put the bio balls in a clean "only used for water changes" 5 gal. pale and filled the pale with tank water. I then rinsed the sump with tap water to clean out all the nasty stuff. Before returning the bio balls in to the sump i sloshed them around in the pale by hand and poured the dirty water out in the sink. I then filled the pale again with tank water and returned the bio balls to the sump. Filled the tank with fresh water till the water level in the sump was good and powered the pump back on. This took no more than one hour. Today "about 24 hours later" i noticed the water in the tank had a slight haze to it so i decided to test the water. This is the reading i got. Nitrate=10 ppm. Nitrite=.5 and ammonia= a slight trace.

Is this a mini cycle? What did i do wrong? Are my fish in danger?

I did a 50% water change and 2x dosed with Prime tonight.

Is this a mini cycle?
Yes
What did i do wrong?
Not sure.
Sounds like you took all the reasonable, usual precautions.
Are my fish in danger?
Keep up the water changes, lighten up on feeding, monitor your water and you should be fine.

When you "rinsed the sump with tap water to clean out all the nasty stuff. " Could have you left some un treated tap water in there ? Even a small amount can cause some of your bactria to die off.

Either way, as John has stated above, keep an eye on it, water change if required, and you will be fine.

Thanks for the help!

50% water change today and the last. Slight reading of niitrite and ammonia today. All fish seem to be doing well.
