This is Lava Lamp Larry. He's 7" across. And has claspers that almost look out of proportion compared to his size.....

Will be intresting to see how big he gets, his perimeter spotting actually looks off from what you'd expect to see on a ray this size.

I'm curious what you guys would say a ray this size needs for a tank? He's currently in a 125 but will go to a 2x6 or 3x4 footprint in the next month or so.

That is a sharp looking ray! Is he wild caught? 6 x 2 should be fine.

Thanks guys....

He is wild caught.... 1 of 3 lil males here, the other 2 aren't near as small though. The biggest of the 3 I've had for going on 5 years. He showed up mature at 7" and is now probobly 10". Spent most of those years in pretty good sized ponds and currently resides in the 750. None of them have reproduced yet though. :(

I thought the 125 looked spacious for the lil bugger.... lol. The tanks only 125 gallons, but it's sitting on another 125 both tied into a sump next to them. Aside from the sump there's also 4 ac 110s and a fluval 405 on this system. Should be a lil shy of 300 gallons total, but there's only 3 midgets Larry's size and a lil 6" pup in the 125 below, with a half dozen lil Odoe, so bio load should be really light for the volume. Hoping to add this trio trio of midgets to the other trio in a 6x3 eventually and hopefully with some patience I can get them to reproduce.

thats a great looking ray db but if he stays at a "mature" 7inches ill eat my liquorice hat :D

hope you have a nice lady lined up for him !

Do the claspers not look mature to you? I know he's not going to stay at 7", BUT if he's mature at this size I'd guess him to only pick up a few more inches. I have one here I've had almost 5 years that was aquired the same size as Larry, and I'm guessing he might be 10" now.

When I said the size they mature at seems to be related to max size it didn't mean they quit growing when they mature I was simply implying that if you compared a retic, hystrix, scobina, or midget Marble they all seem to mature small (6-10") and stay relatively small as an adult (under 18") but if you look at the blackies, tigers, flowers, castexi then the males don't mature till much larger sizes (10-18") and seem to carry much larger adult sizes (2-3+'). Hopefully that makes alil more sense.... :)

Yes, there are a few ladies here for Larry...... ;)

If the order didn't get messed up
1) Larries
2) Larry's favorite groupie
3) Far right is a 5+ year old gal (maybe 10") and center is my first CB pup ( She's 3+ years old & 7-8")
