Say I were to make a plywood tank, something in the range of 25 gallons, how would I go about doing it?
I am aware this is impractical cost wise. This would just be for fun

1. Use Search function to locate and read a bunch of the numerous threads on MFK explaining the process.

2. Downsize the plan you choose to this silly and impractical size.

3. Make up a material list and buy the stuff.

4. Start measuring, cutting, drilling, sanding, screwing, gluing and painting.

5. Realize at some point...hopefully early on...that it is really not that much less work than building a proper tank of much greater capacity....and stop wasting your time.

Oh, and...have fun! :)

1. Stop trying to make a fool out of me and answer the question, I am asking how to make one of these things scaled down, not a "proper" size, which is not on this site because every time it's asked, it is shot down

2. I am allowed to do what I want with my time and money so long as I'm not hurting anyone or any of my animals, keeping the latter in mind when I ask people with more experience, like yourself, to make sure I do this properly and not cause harm

How thick do I need the plywood, what screws, what sealant, so on

Wow...relax! I commented on the size because I had no idea how much consideration you had put into it. It is...IMHO...not a practical project.

Answer the question? The question has been asked and answered so many times here it's practically a joke. A plywood tank is a box made of wood, sealed on the inside with epoxy or perhaps rubber, with a sheet of glass siliconed into one or more windows cut out of the sides. The basic construction has been detailed so many times in so many threads that there's nothing left to say. Type of screws, sealant, etc...all been done over and over.

Thickness of wood? Who knows what you can get away with for that size? Nobody bothers to build them that small. Thinner than the standard 3/4-inch used on larger tanks? Sure, but how thin? Thinner plywood is less foregiving of screw placement when you assemble it, so it's harder to work with rather than easier. I won't even make a guess, cause that's all it would be.

I'd look into that stuff Gpdriftwood Gpdriftwood mentioned; a quick google search on it sounds very promising. But asking for somebody to hold your hand through the simplest steps instead of doing some basic research on your own first isn't the best course...IMHO. DIY stands for Do It Yourself...which includes doing some research yourself so that you can at least ask some educated questions, rather than a vague "What should I do?".

Good luck.

I can understand the frustration with my vague question and will admit that it is in fact vague, but it is not because I am too lazy to get my own information, rather I do not know where to start, and would at least like a point in the right direction. This, to me, does not include researching answers, as I have asked this question before years ago and received the same "money and practicality" response, hence why I thought specifying that this would be a fun project would've helped get a better answer. I figured I would make my own thread on this since like you said, noone builds them this small, so I figured no existing threads on building practically sized plywood tanks would be of use.

However, thank you for the bit regarding the wood, I figured it didn't need to be the full 3/4" thick, but that screws would be an issue. That's a step in the right direction.
