MINIATUS GROUPER

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yep. Had a gougous one that ate like a horse stayed hidden all the time and only came out to eat. Also hated all other fish and killed a Harlequin tusk and tried to kill a Yellow Tang bbefore I sold him.

IMHO a gougous fish, but a fish that eats all the food, stays hidden, and will not allow tankmates was NOT for me.

I had a 240g 8' tank and he wanted it all to himself. For a species only tank a great fish, but thet stay in their caves all day.

I have a twelve inch Miniatus Grouper, they are a majestic fish. Mine only hides when the lights are off. During the day he cruises around in the open, maybe I got lucky with him.

Groupers are like cichlids. All have diff personalities. Havent had a miniatus but others i have had or seen have hand fed so they def arent all wimps.

what would the minumum size tank be for one of them?

are there any groupers that would fit into a 135?

Minimum tank size is say 300g. Not really any proper groupers that will live forever in a 135 but there are similar species, hinds and dottybacks stay fairly small but are similar to groupers. If you want something bigger soapfish get around 12" and have the same big grouper mouth.
