In the future, like this summer I would like to set up a tank for a tessy eel. What is the minimum size tank for them? Can any other thing stay with them? I would like to see some pictures of these guys in peoples tanks? thx

Ahh hard to say with eels but ide say an 8x3x2'5high would be a minimum for one. Even if it only ends up gettin 4' it really needs a tank that big. You also need big 20kg (no idea bout pounds) plus bits of live rock or the eel can simply wriggle and move them around as eels are very strong. Tankmates would be possible but unless you have a huge tank where its tankmates can be as large as the tessy i wouldnt put anything expensive in there as they could slowly disappear. Not exactly an easy one to keep. While not looking as cool go have a look at fimbriates if you want a similar personality in a smaller eel with much more scope for tankmates.

i'm guessing your reffering to tesselata eels?, big fella's -5'ish max from what i've read. i'd go for around 10'x4'+ personally, you could probably get away with something a bit smaller like mentioned above.

Ive read 6'. Yeah i agree if i was ever gonna keep one ide want something around 10x4 or even bigger. technically the eel on its own would be ok in what i said before as if they are well fed they are quite happy curling up in one spot most of the time anyway. But yeah ide much rather a much bigger tank and try some tankmates.

i read somewhere that keeping schools of really small schooling fish could be doable as tankmates of a huge pred like one of these morays. the theory is that the eel wouldn't bother with prey items of such a inconsequential size. if it worked, that tank would look awesome.

I've seen it done before and it does look amazing. A large beautiful eel as the centerpiece with a variety of damsels, chromis, and clowns swimming all around its lair. It really does look amazing. :)
