Hello all,

It's time for me to thin the herd in my 180gal.

Many of the common(around here)species are going to the lfs for store credit but, I have a good looking ZZ FH that I want to keep.
Would a 30gal be ok long term with a filter rated for 60gals?

I know I'm not providing much info but, assume water conditions are always optimal and it will be the only fish in the tank.

I'm still new to FH's so any more info you need, I'll do my best to answer.

Best to all

No. FH regularly reach 12". A 75 would be ideal

As long as your not using any tanks that has a width of 13" or smaller. If you want shorter and wider tanks, best to go with breeder tanks.

Prefer 50 to 55? I don't get it. I have a 55 that's 48x16x16 and a 50 that's 48x12x20...

As I have mentioned, breeder tanks are useful in this situation. And a 48x16x16 is a breeder tank, not a standard tank. 48x12x20 is a 50 long and that is definitely not what you want. You don't want long tanks for flowerhorns because there is just no use for them, they will have hard time turning around in long tanks. 50 standard is 37x18x20 or 37x19x20 compare to a 55 standard 48x12x21 or 48x13x21. The width of the tank is more important than the length of the tank when it comes to flowerhorns.
