Minimum Tanksize for a ropefish

Ropefish look cooler when they are in groups than just keeping one as it will only hide most of the time. They are also become aggressive eater when you're keeping more. As for the tank size, get the biggest one that you can afford and fits in your ideal room that you gonna set up the tank. Why go for the min size tank such 30g. The smaller the tank the more increase in bio-load and you have to do a lot of cleaning. I also noticed with bichirs and ropefish that they don't like smaller tank that's why they always look for an excape area. I have a pond with no cover for 2 years and they never tried to escape. I started adding the cover because of the cats and other pesky animal that would try to catch them.

i've kept reed/rope fish twice, once in a 56 gal and then in a 125 gal so space wasn't an issue and both times i've had them escape and perish on the floor ! they tend to get out of the small gaps where the filter pipes go so either cover this somehow or use internal filters, but they are quite a characterful fish and well worth the effort in my opinion

a 2 foot tank is not enough space for a ropefish really you will need a minimum of a 48"x15"x15" imo i have seen them kept in 3 foot tanks before but they deserve more space and are fairly active and fair best in groups anyhow
