This fall I probably will be doing some tank moving, and switching some fish around, since I plan on having some unheated tanks to help with the electric bill. I am having trouble finding info on minimum temps for these fish, without stressing them out.
Some are obviously coldwater hardy - but this information will help me decide how to mix the other fish once they are moved out of my classroom, where they are all kept nice and toasty warm.

Tropical Gar
Alligator Gar
Syno Cat and Asian Upside Down Cat
Spotted Gar
Longnose Gar
Pacu
Convicts and other similar cichlids
Giant Gourami (The big one.)
Bowfin
Wels

Gars can handle temps as low as 60-65 degrees with normal season change (a warmer period). Bowfins prefer between 65-72 degrees and they spawn usually when the temp drops to 60-66 degrees. And I know Pacus can handle the same range as both of those fish. The only one that doesn't require a warmer period is the bowfin. I'm not sure about the rest though. HTH.

Thanks for the input guys - I am surprised that you guys say the bowfin is only okay down to 60, since I'm pretty sure they live under ice in the winter. Same for some gars, no?

Yes, I know the Wels probably are the most hardy of all the above fish. I need to know the min. water temp for the rest, to see which can live with the Wels in cold water.

So, mid 60 is the coolest, safe temp for all of these fish ?

Could the gars be in low to mid 50's (unheated, with the wels and bowfins?)

Bowfin, Gars(not sure about tropical gar) and Wels should be fine without any heat for longer periods...but the cichlids, catfish, pacu and gourami may need a heat and cannot withdraw the low 60s for longer periods.
