Minnow Traps

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have only let them sit an hour out of wanting to see what I caught. I fish while they are in the water .

this might sound bit zany but there are small gators in the lakes and canals ESP now and reluctant to leave them overnight as afraid would go back and trap destroyed though have never heard of it happening its just the way I think lol.

Thought maybe the fish would attract them I know it has attracted big softshells and at that point nothing goes near the trap

yea ive had a snapper shred one, all my traps i set now are in a relatively snapper free area, or at least it was last year,,,,,

Yes thats the problem the gators they arent big they are about 3 feet and not like I see them more than once in blue moon but at night they go from day being nervous and shy scared to death of humans to SUPER bold at night and come near with bad intent thats why figures a trap left overnight is good as lost

i mean setting out during the day isnt bad i would just leave in for a few hours once fish start going in more fish follow

when i used to run traps for minnows all I would use to bait was bread. It also helps to position the trap right and let them soak in the water for sometime. painting them flat black or green makes them harded for the fish to see.

yea i use krylon or what ever its called, most the ones i buy that are silver get spraypainted

I have found MUCH better results with silver traps.. Painted or bought black... Are useless here.. The diference is 10 to 1.

I bait mine with bread and Anice oil. wait 1-2 hours and i have around 300-500 2.5-4 inch minnows between 2 regular traps.

I toss my traps in around 5pm and pull em up betweet 7 and 9 which ever is still visible light :D

Why would the color matter would think better for fish as they might see it as obstruction?

Anice oil lures them in?

I have no idea... But After being told I tried it and the black blew... And the silvers rocked :D

The anice oil was told to me by an Oldtimer ;) In my opinion it works:D

Are the fish you are catching larger than minnows... Minnows in groups attract FISH :D BIG FISH :D

We also have a chub problem here.. so you are not allowed to let them go.. They are mixed with the minnows... About 50/50

I also was told to do my best to lay my trap parralel to the bank ;)
