Minnow Traps

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks to all who have posted- I'll be using some of the info soon as well. I've found that minnows go nuts whenever I gut fish on the bank and throw the entrails back in. No entrails around now, so I'm baiting with fatty pork. I'll post results after I get around to doing that.

thank you for posting i have noted all info i found to be helpful(practically everything) hopefully we catch alot to catch intern larger fish!

You know looking back on things one of the few Bass that I kept and gutted by the show after throwing in the entrails it attracted tons of tiny fish it was like chum for them.
That probably could be the best bait out there for traps

I tried pork fat the other day and found that it did not work too well. Because of its buoyant nature, all of the scraps would float to the top of the trap and be picked at from the outside by larger sunfish. When put in an area closer to shore, it worked fairly well for baby sunfish. I pulled the trap in every fifteen minutes or so, catching between none to four. This works fairly well small scale if you intend to fish alone, as I was about to get about a dozen baby sunfish per hour, but a single trap is insufficient to provide bait for multiple fishermen.

i make my traps out of a 2 litre bottle of soda. i simply tie them to some fishing string throw them off the edge of a bed and wait about 10 minutes and i uasally catch about 6 dozen minnows each time. i uasally use graham crackers for bait.

I use saltine crackers to bait my traps and i catch tons. I set my traps out in the morning and check it at sunset. I then leave it out all night and check during the day. When I leave out at night I catch baby bullheads. I had to stop trapping for a while because the raccoons drug my trap on shore and ate the fish and left some in there and where all dried up.
