Hey there everyone. I was wondering if it would be okay to catch minnows in the lake in put them in an aquarium with regular tap water. Would they survive?
Short answer, yes, long answer, it depends on the local and the species. Also, remember that the term minnow can be used to desrcribe everything from tiny Gambusia all the way up to 60 lb carp. You also need to check your local laws, it could be illegal in some places. I would also quarantine your minnows before feeding, so you don't introduce some exotic disease to your fish. What are you feeding?
If they survive the trip home they should be fine.Once you remove them from the well oxygenated water of their home and place them in your bucket, you have to get them home as soon as possible or they will suffocate from lack of oxygen. You could very easily get home and have half of your fish already dead. There are aerators you can buy to place on your container.I use minnows in the summer when I can stock up,quarantine and fatten them up.My fish seemed to grow nicely being fed minnows.
