I've seen the pics posted here by MTN PIKE, and have read a few comments, but haven't found much info. The Mostly Cichlids article describes them as a relatively "mild mannered", but that appears to have been based on observing a single specimen. MTN PIKE's comments match that, and he says that he only has one of them in the tank. My question: does anyone know what kind of conspecific aggression levels they have? Are they more laid-back than your average crenicichla with respect to other minuanos, too?

Just trying to decide if they would be worthy of any of the ever-declining available tank space. :D

I found a new article on Mostly Cichlids that may answer my question: "...Crenicichla minuano, a diminutive and surprisingly peaceful insectivore. A delightful aquarium resident, it does not bother others or even members of its own species." I may have to move that up the priority list, just for something different.

I dunno, I think MTN Pike had a GROUP of them, but is now down to just one due to aggression. They don't seem to bother other fish though. Never kept them, but it seems that riverine Crenicichla tend to be more aggressive.

I may have to wait until later in the year (I know several people heading to Uruguay in November, I think)...Jeff is down to 2-4 of these left...his pike list is dwindling in general, so I'm hoping that he will be getting some interesting shipments before long.

We would say the minuano is relatively peaceful, moreso than missioneria. A group of the minuanos would be great in a community tank, let us know if you get a few. Their 'beak' snout is interesting - they have a 'happy face'. The missioneria has more color & patterns ~ probably a better show fish.
