So I'm rinsing out the sump filters socks from my Mbuna tank and notice something yellow in the bottom of the sink and low and behold it's a yellow lab fry. But he's not a little TINY fry, he's got some size to him. He's alive but not exactly in good shape. Knowing he wouldn't stand a chance back in the 90 gallon I put him in a breeder net suspended in the top of my 30 gallon Convict tank that's got about a dozen juvies. The next day he's acting darn near 100% and even interested in eating so I figure, what the heck, and I dump him in the tank with the Convicts. Well, he was accepted instantly as just one of the guys. Everyone's happy as a clam.
The funny this is, he was much larger than a fry that just got spit but there's no way he could have lived in the tank to that size. It's a happy tank that always has a couple of fish holding but in the last four years I've only seen a fry one time. And that was a brief 3 or 4 seconds before he got gobbled up. Soooooo, was he able to live and grow in the filter sock with about 800 gallons an hour flowing down on his head? LOL
I'm not sure what I'll do with him in the long run. I'm not the kind to enjoy seeing Africans and Centrals in the same tank. Kinda bugs me. But at least they're all happy for now and my hard water is much to their liking.
Maybe I'll let him put on some size and try him back in the African tank, although chances are slim they'll accept somebody new.
The second pic is of their weekly water change party.
