Has anyone used mirrors in fish tanks? I read somewhere that you can put two tanks next to each other and it can keep the fish occupied ie, less aggressive or destructive.

I dont have either of those problems, and I have a 10g feeder next to my 55g and the fish in the 55 def check out the 10 all the time.

Somewhere I am pretty sure I read about putting a mirror on a tank and it can do the same thing. So I was thinking of using mirror window tint on the back panel of my tank. I think it would look cool, and you could see behind everything. My only concern would be that the fish would think there is another of their same breed that looks a lot like them so they may attack the "other fish" haha. I think it would look sweet, but I really dont want to do it, fill the tank back up and then have to empty it just to take the tint off again...

one problem will be that looking into your tank and you'll see, eh, you...

personaly I wouldnt like that ;)

I once made a mirror behind half my 55 gallon. I had it there for a few months and wondered why the fish never swam about. They ALL sat on one half of the tank by the mirror just chilling, never swimming. I think they thought they were in a school or something. I took the mirror down because I didnt care for all my fish to sit there and look at "everyone"

if I put a mirror infront of my Flowerhorn he flips out and wants to fight himself. My 9" black rhom did it also. I'm guessing there are other fish that would do the same thing. So might wanna see how your fish react to seeing themself before you do anything like tint the back glass.

That is what I was afraid of. I was going to try this last night but could not find mirror tiny anywhere, so I guess that worked out pretty good. I want to put up something on the back but most of the ones I see I dont really like or they look stupid. Maybe just black it out or something like that...I will have to think about this now...
