Has anyone try to use a mirror for a background? I just thought it would look cool having a planted tank with a mirror as backgroung so it looks like it as more plants and deeper.will the fish trip out or scare them?
Let me know what you think

I had one on my tank about 24 years ago (I know been awhile) and another about 10 years ago. I think the biggest issue that it can cause stress to fish especially cichlids seeing their reflection. Now if it was a plant only tank it would be ok or even some tetra, barbs and such. I know my oscar would chase himself constantly in it however my tiger barbs could care less.

Not a good idea. If you want the tank to appear deeper, use a solid black background.

well, that convinced me...

I've got some smoky mirror tiles I'm thinking of using. or maybe doing THIS, which seems much better at providing depth than a black background.

Some tanks have mirror backrounds, my fish didn't mind at all and it made the tank seem way bigger not to mention I could see every angle of the fish and it spread the light!

Do you think a silver aro will like it? What are some fish that hates it and what can care less about it being there

I've heard of people using smaller mirrors in FH tanks to try to increase the growth rate of the nuchal hump. I don't think there is any hard proof that this works though, or if having the back of the tank mirrored would provide the same effect. If you really want to go trippy then have both sides be mirrors so they constantly reflect everything...it would be interesting to see how different species would be able to handle that situation.
