In early May I will be aquiring a 3" mirror carp for my 55 gallon tank. Yes I know that he will not last long in that tank but I am working on obtaining a 125-150 gallon tank then a pond. I kept 4 really nice Koi in this tank for a few years but gave them away before I left for college. I am just wondering if anyone has any tips or any products I should buy for my tank. I am looking on doing that this week since I am home for spring break. I am going to outfit my tank with completely new equipment and hopefully I will be able move some of it over to my new tank. Also if you own a carp or have I'd like to know how you like it. I am a die hard carp angler and have wanted a real carp for the longest time and it has taken forever to find a place that sells them but I found one. Any tips or help is greatly apperciated. Thanks

I personally think that they would act quite similar to koi. They are great bottom feeders. I would do a gravel style bottom because it will probably like to pick up the rocks and look around for bits of food. Dont worry about heating it since they are a cold water species. One of the other members on here had some carp. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vRggywS-Dh4 the carp are at about 40seconds into the video.

That is a nice tank and a beautiful carp. Any suggestions on what kind of filters or filtration supplies I should buy?

I have a mirror carp in my outside pond...will post some pics when the uv is on again..
Carp nead massive over-filtration in a tank that size. I'd recommend at LEAST 2 AC110's. By the way they are group fish so you should get at least 2 more :)

I figured that I should get more than one. I will be definatly picking up one AC110 and AquaTop EF-400 canister filter. I am also looking into a powerhead and possibly an internal filter. Any suggestions on what products to get would be apperciated.

That should be sufficient ;) For an internal I'd get a Fluval U4 filter(look it up :D )
I'd put them directly into the pond rather than buying another tank for them. They look MUCH better in outside ponds :)

That is exactly what I was thinking when I come home from college start digging my pond. It will take awhile but when I leave for college next fall I would like to have them still in my possession.
