i got a 30 gal tall aquarium for free the other day and it had the back piece of glass missing and i was wondering if i could use a piece of mirror instead of glass . i could get it the same thickness and everything but would it work and would it be safe for my fish?

I've seen a 55 gal tank with a mirrored back and all was well. I dont think it would be a problem unless you have really skiddish fish .

HAHA you're going to have some really vain fish!!! It will work fine though, as long as your fish aren't afraid of their reflections.

I would use a low intensity light, the reflection will be bright.

I would think that all the reflection would take away from what you could see of the tank. When your looking in the tank you would be looking at yourself and everything in the room behind you, and really distorted.

Test it first, place a mirror inthe tank against the back just to make sure, think of if you have strong lighting too, it may reflect that straight out at you when you look at the tank

as long as the fishes aren't aggresive and try to attack the reflection or reflect way too much light, give it a shot.
