I've had this girl a little over 2 years. She was a about 6" when I got her.
She hates everything except my big managuense. She will follow him around and hang out with him all the time. For the most part he ignores her.
I have been keeping fish for 51 years and have had several pike but hadn't had any in about 10 years. My daughter saw this johanna listed as a red pike in Chinatown in Boston and thought I should have it . She bought it and brought it home for me.
She was about 8 - 9" in this shot at a guess about 1 1/2 years ago. Hanging out with her big buddy.
Their is a catfish in the tank that I measured 2 years ago at 13" she is bigger than the catfish so I know she is over 13". I didn't think a johanna female would get that big.
Her colors can change almost completely depending on her mood. She will be kind of dark and drab then lighten up with a orange/reddish belly depending on her mood.
Alot of times if the fishroom is dark she will flare at me and slap the glass when I get close and look in (my kind of fish).
This is her now.
I have 9 aquariums in the fish room running now. I have 4 new tanks to set up. 2 x 90, 1 x180, 1 x 270. I have had them for 3 years and not set them up. I am setting up the 180 right now. It will have my 13"-15 year old red devil, a 10" managuense that is mean as hell (not my big guy), a pleco and some kind of colorful pike. Maybe a cobra. Any thoughts on a colorful pike that would work in this tank.
