hey guys,

I need your expertise. After losing my ornate and sen bichirs to horrible suicides last year, i finally broke down and picked up an adorable 1.5-2" sen. However, the place i bought him/her (can't tell yet) kept em with some cichlids that apparently thought the they didnt need fins in order to swim. S/he has lost their left pectoral fin. Not just the fin, but the fin is basically a nub now.

So i was wondering if i should expect any problems with this in the future? I understand most fish learn to cope with missing fins, but I wasnt sure as bichirs are unique in nature.

yea it will grow back

Hopefully it will grow back, but it can adapt as long as it doesn't have a hard time getting food along with the other fish during feeding.

yeah i will definately watch it during feeding time to make sure its eating. Are you sure its gonna grow back? cause its almost flush along that side of its body. I'll try and get pictures.

yea depends its like an arowanas barbel might grow might not

I picked up a small delhezi once that the LFS kept with puffers. They had chewed his pectorals down to the nub, and both grew back. Eventually the pattern showed in them as well.

Keep him in pristine weater conditions and hopefully he'll be fine.

O

Take a pic. It might help us see if it can grow back or not.

im not sure if bichirs are diff to FHs lol but my male attacked my female FH and left her just her pectoral fins JUST. he had eaten her tale down to the actual base so he was starting on skin. but i kept the water clean and put in some melafix and within a couple of weeks its nearly grown fully back. so hopefull your sens will.
fingers crossed GL
