I t is a loose scale, either it has been whacked by another fish or banged up against something, it will fall off and another will grow in.

not trying to insult your intelligence guppy, but are you sure it will grow back? i've just heard that scales don't grow back. i DEFENATELY want that scale back. :(

I've seen this happen to quite a few of my fish before, it will most likely grow back. I've only seen goldfish and koi that have permanently loose scales. All my cichlids have recovered loose scales. Sometimes they leave a little shadow of a scar that is almost unnoticeable.

I have had several fish get beaten up pretty bad and they all grew the scales back, though a couple of them had scales grow back malformed.

scales do grow back just some are quicker than others.
things like heater burn etc leave scared scales which dont grow back as before.
loose scales due to bangs etc should be ok
