does slime coat come back, and what cuases it to go away?

Yes it does. Handling the fish ( ie netting ) , stress, aggression by other fish and other reasons can take the slime coat away. The best way to regain it is to let the fish rest in a stress free environment and the slime coat will be replenished.

yes, have had many fish fall out of the tanks and lose it, comes back you can also buy medicine to help....

would salt salt bath help or hurt?

I have never had salt effect a slime coat but Stresscoat and Amquel+ both help the recovery of a fishes natural slime.
