So two days ago my jd got it's tall bit off. He is now in a hospital tank. I have used stress coat and melafix as it recommends but there's a fussy white stuff on the tail. is this normal or do I need to do something more?

Looks like a normal body reaction to missing flesh. Stick with the regimen you've been providing and good luck, that bite looks real nasty. Who was the offender?

I feel real bad about the JD, he looks great.

Wow, that is a substantial amount. Somehow your post needs to be changed to a 911. The experts on MFK need to chime in. Wow, that's a lot gone! I hope it turns out ok. I've had good luck with Melafix and Pimafix for for fin loss. However my expertise is with a few nips. So sorry, that picture speaks volumes. I hope the experts come soon!

It's normally a beep black to when was not stresst out to I really don't want to lose him. I'm not sure who did it but it was ether a large flower horn, large jaguar, and maybe one of the two pacus.

I'm not sure how to get the post 911 but I will try to find out. I have never had I fish get this much damage. i have call my lfs they said to use stress coat and the melafix.

Sounds like the Pacus. The mean ones are relentless. The tail will probably not grow back. Treat with salt and higher temps and hope for the best.

Thanks for all the info every one. This is how he is doing. All of the died flesh has come off now and looking much better. He is eating normal and swimming as well as he can given no tail. I'm begine to think that it may never grow back his tail cuz i can see the bone but I can hope :)

If only the actual fins had been bitten off, it would grow back, but since it went beyond the base, it will not grow back.

Well as long as he heals up good I will be happy. and he will not be going back in the 125g tank lol. I got a 55 cycling right now should be done about the time he is all healed up.
