Hello All,
Just got my 5" GT today. Had a difficult time finding one larger than 3". First pic shows him observing while acclimating. Then I introduced him/her to my 3.5" juvenile Giant Gouramy and inhabitants of 90 in my 75 gallon planted community. Supposedly, they are suppose to eat my plants and smaller tetras. But they have not.

I've listed who the GT and GG tankmates are below. Understand that there is a huge possibility of my 1 inchers disappearing, i.e. 1" - 1.5" cardinals, black tetras, and SAE. But confidence thus far for this formula. So far both species are docile and calm to their little buddies and no havoc on floura. My plans are to keep them in my 75'er for a month or two, and upgrade to 110g or 150g tall.

What do you guys think of this unusual blend for this setting and combination? Has anyone here done something like this with either species? Testimonials are appreciated.

Inhabitants:::

I think it's great if you can make it work.

I had a Green Terror that was beat up by another one and was using my hospital already so I thought what the hell I'm going to try and put him in my community tank.
The tank had a pearl gouramy, some tetras and corydoras.

Nothing ever happened, the GT didn't bother them at all.

Nice tank, the bigger your tank the better your chances will be, it would be really nice if it works, nice selection of fish. I hope it works :)

I would suspect the GT would work out. My female was a gentle giant in my tank until she laid eggs and when I put a pike in with her. It seems she has settled down, but hates everything once eggs are laid. Anyways yours looks to be a male, Great looking GT and tank!

With the gt being the only cichlid you've got a good chance of it working, except for the little one which may become food.

Am I weird that I read that list, and the only thing that popped in my mind was: "black tetras like to be in schools of 5, not 3"?

That is a sweet looking tank! Great looking GT too! Good luck. Hope it keeps working out.

Unfortunately the real question is what will you do with the GG when it's over a foot long? I had six of them when I had the pond up. Smallest was 18" long. Just isn't a fish for a tank smaller than three or four hundred gallons.

Very nice tank, but like Aquamojo said, where are you putting the GG when it grows bigger? They grow extremely fast and aggressive as they get bigger! I had a GG that I had to sell because he was beating up my 14" Jaguar Cichlid! :(
