Umm ok how to start.......... My Mom and my sisters go to the Dominican Republic on a mission trip evry year. The whole point is to get them independent of the missionaries. They set them up with stores and gardens. I havent been yet but im going next year. So they set up a giant cement aquarium for the nuns to use for the community. I dont know what happened, but they tried to make as cheap as possible. They got a bunch of lil Tilapia to grow. They were all supposed to be the same sex, but turns out not and it didnt work out cuz the nuns drained the water n ate all the fish. They dont have any filtration on it. My mom thinks they have something for air. ugggghhhh i kno bad. So when i get down there im goin to help re-estblish the tank. They dont really feed the fish cuz evry1 is starving. they just let it get really green n gross. This was a disaster. Do you guys hve any ideas about tilapia. or any fish tht we could buy in bulk down there? Umm food they did fine in the messy water until they started fighting n stuff. umm ohh n they didnt do water changes, they just refilled it. umm i think im gonna tell them to use the WC water for their garden. Any ideas or help or comments.

Errr - To be honest, i think putting something like talapia in there is the best idea.

Whats the saying?

"Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day, Teach a man to fish (or in this case, Keep Fish) and he'll eat for a life time"

I seriously think that the people of the Dominican republic have much MUCH bigger problems on their plates at the minute.

Sorry to put a downer on it like this, but i think that the best thing to do is to throw a load of fast growing, fast breeding, hardy fresh water fish into the tank, and let the nuns use them as they see fit.

Whether it be to educate the local community, or whether it be to feed some people who really need it.

Those tanks are to grow food, not to be observed..............

Maybe you can grow down there and plant some corn, so they can watch it grow.....

I'd go with...tilapia!

Tilapia for sure... they will do fine, actually prob. thrive in the algae rich water.
