the rock...671!!!
i just bought a 30gal at a yard sale ($5) it's in pretty good condition, no cracks or chips, but there is a misty/foggy/hazy substance all over it (kinda like how old acrylic tanks get, but this is glass) i thought it might be some kinda algae that molded on, but it's not coming off. no matter how hard i scrub, it's still there. even went as far as taking a razor to it. i'm thinking of using some kinda chemical, any suggestions on what would be safest?

Sounds like lime deposits. Take a paper towel, ball it up, wet it down with white vinegar, and drop it on a section of the 'milky' glass. Leave it for a half to full hour then remove the towel, wipe with a water wet paper towel, then wipe with a dry towel. If the glass cleans up, do the rest of the tank the same way.

It won't harm the fish after it's rinsed off.

Avoid using household cleansers meant to clean hardwater spots or lime buildup. These are caustic chemicals that can permanently etch glass.
