I have a male (Costa Rica variety, blue head) and a female (Nicaragua varity, golden head) and they have spawned for the first time. My question is what will there offspring look like? I think I will grow some out to find out, but I'm anxious to know if one variety or the other will be dominant?

I will post photos of the pair and the wigglers later today or tomorrow.

awesome! hope they look better than any before.I'm actually trying the same thing.Who knows? My male is a golden head, and I'm still growing up the blueheads.

They are the same species of fish so I'ts possible you will get 50/50 of the spawn as either blue or gold. there is also a chance that you could get a combination of the two. you don't hear about peopel breeding nics very often. Just finding out details about the different colour strains is hard enough. So whatever you do get will be very interesting! God luck with them, theyre a great looking pair

They are in a tank with a few tetras and a few corys.. The pair has done a good job of keeping them on one side of the tank. Here is a photo from this morning. Still plenty of wigglers.

Wow looking beautiful! It's always so fun to see cichlids raise fry! Are you planning on growing out any of them?
Which locality did you say the male was again, Any chance you could tell me which Locality my male is? (Not many people on here seem to know much about localities of Nics)
I'm trying to learn as much as I can about these beautiful Fish.

His male is from costa rica and his female from nicaragua. Yours looks nicaraguan, too.

Thanks Chub_by I'm going to try and do more Nic research now and find out what a fully grow Nicaraguan male looks like as apposed to a fully grown Costa rican male.
