Sorry, my cell phone cam just sucks completely so I couldn't get a pic for ID...

But at a LFS, there is a tank of "mixed africans" (isn't there always it seems?)

Anyway, theres one kind in there that is blue wiht black vertical bars coming from the top but they don't reach the bottom of the belly adn don't wrap around, and the 3rd one back comes from the bottom and does not reach the top. Theres 2 stripes on the head, and they go up over the nose and further down towards the tip, then back and down the other side. The back and strips are all black.

Based on pics at liveaquaria.com i can say that it is not a demansoni (i wish it was.... we want some), zebra, or blue johanni, or anything else they are selling...

Any ideas?

Very similar, but not quite... unless? Is there variation in the colors (these were fairly blue) and bar pattern?

some of the ones you'll see in mixed bags have stripes that vary from the norm. When young, they are all blue with the black stripes. As they get larger, the males become yellow and the females remain blue.
