yes i know some dont like it but i see a lot who have nice tanks both africans and south americans

question though big central american cichlids large jack dempsey and texas they are not aggressive enough to handle a few mbuna dithers? I found that my chipokae is still able to beat them up even though they are 8 inches he sneak attacks. Usually the combo mixed amazing but i had salvini, tiger mota, red devils

i sold those got more laid back new world cichlids but these guys cant handle a few mbuna

has anyone else experienced this?

One of the reasons I don't personally mix the two, CA cichlids are used to a more confrontational "square up" style of fighting, mostly flaring and lip locking. Mbuna go for the quick strikes, and larger bulkier fish can't keep up. Usually the mbuna are scared of the larger cichlids, but some mbuna are pretty much insane, and the result is torn fins on the larger, slower fish.

If you want to do Africans and Central Americans the best bets are to add somewhat less aggressive Africans such as peacocks and such.

I kept Borleyi, Acei, Hongi, Malawi Eye Biter, and various Peacocks, with New Worlds, which included Festae and RIvulatus as well as a large school of SD' s. They all grew up together, rarely any problems. It was a very awkward situation. The Africans are more or less reef fish. The New Worlds are river, lake and swamp fish. The obvious difference in behavior made viewing less than tranquil.
I ended up rehoming the Africans.
