Where eva theres Cichla!!!
hey ppl's,

a few weeks ago i told u all that i traded my jardini in for a 12" male umbee..after a long hard think bout what i'd done, ive decided that i'm gonna get my jardini back...infact i'm takin the umbee back tomorrow! there is one small problem tho...i have also put a down payment on an 8" CKF...i'm just hoping that my jardini doesnt bully it when i introduce it...friggin fish lol!! i know for a fact that both species have been kept in harmony...however it all depends on the individual fish...

To the ppl that actually keep a jardini and CKF together please tell me how ur tanks are setup, heavily planted? driftwood? etc etc...atm my tank only has gravel...and i know that they will fight in a bare tank...so any help for tank decor would be fanstastic...i'm new with knifes and any help with what they like to hide in etc would be fantastic..thx

Shame to see the umbee go, but even before you traded in you sounded like you wanted to keep the jardini! Good luck with the cohab, I suggest planting so to break the view of the aro and knife. Let us know how it goes, and keep pictures coming!

I would keep the umbee and go back and get the jar and while u are at the lfs get more TANKS big ones easy problem solved.:

Good to see you getting it back ;)

hehe, dun get me wrong ppl i love that umbee!! his aggression is unreal..and if i could keep him i would...but i cant even get another tank due to high water restrictions! otherwise i would for sure...so today i'm doin a straight swap for my jardini, then next sat getn that clown knife fish....during the week i'm gonna plant the tank up...and make several hidey holes the the CK....gawd i hope it all goes well.. haha

Nice one bro, jars are awesome. You don't wanna go dissing him again like that ... might bring you bad luck! ;)

I have had a jar and a CK together for well over a year now. The jar is definately the more dominant of the two and sometimes "nibbles" a bit of the CK's skin off. He hasn't done it for a while though since I added the greenie. It's bigger that the jar and chases him around, so the jar is too busy to worry about the CK anymore.

My tank is completely bare. Some people think that having a bare tank will reduce the aggression in the tank and not increase it as the OP suggested. The idea is that there are no defined areas in the tank for the different fish to establish territories in.

I also have a black background, bottom and one side .. which is also thought to reduce aggression. I add blackwater extract (from a bottle) and I make my own aloe and garlic extract which I add on a weekly basis.

Good luck!
