I WENT TO MY LFS WITH QUESTIONS ON DIETARY NEEDS AND RECOMMENDED FEEDING FOR MY BASS AND CATFISH. I GOT MIXED IDEAS EVEN THERE BETWEEN THE TWO GUYS. ONE SAID START TRAINING THEM TO GET USE TO TAKING PELLETS. THE OTHER SAID A VARIETY OF LIVE FOOD, LIKE I'VE BEEN DOING, IS BETTER. I'VE MIXED IT UP FROM THE START WITH NATURAL PREY ITEMS FOR THE BASS: CRAYFISH, WORMS, MINNOWS, LIZARDS. CATFISH: STARTED WITH FLAKES, LFS WAS FEEDING FLAKES WHEN I GOT IT, AND THEN MOVED TO MINNOWS, GHOST SHRIMP, WORMS. I KNOW THIS WAS THE PLACE TO ASK OPINIONS? VARIETY IS EXSPENSIVE BUT VERY COOL TO WATCH! I JUST WANT TO DO WHAT'S BEST FOR THEM.

^ agreed ^

Just be sure to quarentine when you use feeders!

I like giving my predators live foods from time to time. I feel it keeps them happier, if that's possible. I feel it lets predators be predators and less like caged tigers, if that makes sense.

In addition to Hikari Cichlid BioGold and other manufactured foods, I give them big fat nightcrawlers, Rosey Reds, Comets, Jumbo Carolina Shrimp (from the market), Crickets, etc. They seem to like the nightcrawlers best. I like to give them as much variety as possible though with live foods and pellets. See sig for stocking.
