Has anyone had any luck mixing Africans? I know it's not a good idea but can it work? Here are some pictures of what will be going into a 180 gallon. I guess the Frontosas should be my biggest worry? I'm taking down a 125 and 150 for now and hoping to combine them (a total of 20 fish) into one tank. Is this going to work? Thanks

If all the fish are going in a 180gal tank then it will work. Just provide enough rocks for the weaker fishes to hide. Those peacocks and some mbunas are notorious fin nippers. They will nip the fins of your frontosas.

everyone will hold their own... occasionally you may get one that is bullied.. but the frontosa will not stand up.. in time the other ones will be mature and start pushing them around..if not sooner.. fronts are too slow.. and too laid back for all the action of african cichlids... even the stress alone may do them in.. and fronts eat so slow and with such caution they will wither away eventually... not worth all the aggrivation to have the fronts in there..

Most africans, especially mbuna, will be fine when they are mixed. Frontosas are a lot more docile than most africans. Be weary of the temperments and watch closely and you should be fine.

Just make sure that you have plenty of hiding spots and you won't have any problems at all...you have a great collection.

That's just about what my tank looks like my 4 fronts are fine and thriving and 2 pairs of my africans breed in their too

Thanks for the feedback. I will keep a close eye on the fronts. These tanks are in the garage and it's going to start to get really cold around here (average 15-25deg.) I would like to sell these tanks and get a 300gal for the house. We'll see! Thanks again

JONP, Thanks for the compliment.:)

good luck with them all.. they are beautiful.. and that would be awesome to have one big tank in the house...hope it works out.

Thanks Liz, thanks for all your help in my threads. If it looks like the fronts are getting picked on I will find them a good home.:)

nothing is ever written in stone..it just may work out for you.. i just watched a cool video of africans and fronts mixed and it was awesome.. so many things depend on everything else... and every fish and every tank is different... good luck.. and show us pics and keep us informed.
