Im converting my 10' 400g tank to salt. I've read mixing the large growing angels is a no-no, unless you have a large tank. I'm assuming my tank is large enough to mix? I definitely want an emperor and I'd like to mix....maybe an asfur and a queen? They would be juveniles when introduced. Other fish will include: Blue spot ray, harlequin tusk, naso, etc. Thoughts?

if you buying them as juvies be careful to really check and double check the patterns on the fish. alot of the large growing angels (at least the one that i can get around me) lokk almost identicle to Korans when young. just verify that they are the species that you want.
sizewise i think you're fine.

Yeah def make sure there the right species.
And no you couldnt have a blue spot ray as they are basically impossible to keep and the angels will pick at them.

Why are the rays impossible? There is a lfs that's had one in a 200? with undulatus trigger, a blue grouper looking fish, and a few other odds and ends for a couple years or so. Is it getting food to them?

blue spots have a very poor track record in captivity, the usually just up and die for no reason, even if they are eating and look fine

you shoul be fine to mix the angels, i would just make sure you have a lot of rock work for them to hide in

blue spotted rays can mean two things:
taeniura lymma, or
dasyatis kuhlii.

make sure you're getting D. kuhlii, it might not be as attractive a ray as T. lymma, but it is MUCH hardier, and easier to get feeding.

Yeah, I agree that the ray is a DEFINITE no go.

As well, make sure you introduce the least aggressive angels to the most aggressive.

If your tank is cycled really well, you may want to add them all in at once (ideally) but you risk shocking the system.

Alternatively, just add 2 at a time.. like for instance add a French Angel first, then an Asfur, etc.. and then finish off with the King Angel (I found it to be the most aggressive).

In one tank, I mixed a Queen, French, Asfur, Maculosis, King, Emperor, Annularis, Blue Face.. and I had very little agression with the exception of the blueface vs maculosis for some reason. The king did go after the queen quite a lot, but never severly enough and never had a single mark on the queen (and she was eating fine).

Then my LFS brought in a Chryssurus angel, and I just 'had' to get it. Threw it in, and withing minutes all the fins were ripped off thanks to the king.

The king then lived in my sump for a month before I even tried to re-introduce him, but once I did, everything was fine again.

Unfortunately, just last week I went away on business and my pump died. I come home, and most of my fish were dead.

Maculosis, and surprisingly enough, the blueface were both alive and still 'ok'. Even my porcupine puffer died through the ordeal. At any rate, just try to add the least aggressive first, and then the most aggressive, and preferably more than one at a time except for the initial purchase.

Hope that helps.

also ix around the tank decor when you get a new fish. so that their territories are broken up and thy are less likely to fight about them.

you can mix large angels with large angels and large with small but not dwarf to dwarf. and good luck with the bluespot lmao. i know people who have been in the hobby for 11 years that cant keep them. make sure you learn ALOT about them before you drop the cash.
