Ive been recently offered some emperor cichlids (Boulengerochromis microlepis) and upon research, i found out that these tanganyikan cichlids can grow as large or larger than cichlas. Furthermore, these fishes are also pursuit predators just like our cichlas. Any insight on mixing these two badboys together in a big tank? will water level/parameter play a big difference? pls info me soon coz they might be sold soon..

Personally, I've never been able to keep emperors with anything else. These cichlids will tear anything up including fish larger than themselves. Out of 7 emperors that I bought together, the alpha-male killed every other male off once the fish reached about 14". Then, he proceeded to kill off all but 2 females. Then, the larger female killed off the smaller one. Soon after, the male killed off the remaining female. I thought my 900gal would be enough to spread out the aggression but, I was wrong. Down to one male in a huge tank, I tried introducing large "shop returned" Hap. species in with him. No dice. Even after a month or so behind a divider, and rearranging the tank, the emperor still killed off every fish I put in.

DAMN!

I wanted to mix these guys up in my big tank when it gets going :(

Emperors are increadible fish. They are mildly aggressive from what i have read.
I dont know about mixing them with Peacocks though. They are from two different regions.

Usually New World and African shouldnt be mixed.

You could always try it and see how it goes, but my guess is it might not work too well. I dont think they do very good with their own kind. Usually a pair will form and they'll harrass any odd man out.

They could do well with Peacocks, but its a toss up.

They require different water parameters as well right?

oh man seeing dead tems gives me the creeps, i wouldnt want that to happen to my fishes no way. theres a perfect solution to this anyway, buy mor cichla!! :)
its probably too soon for me to go into emperors all together since i dont hav a spare tank but thanx for the info odd and trust, i still wana see them up close so il just drop by d shop and take a look.
