so I have 100 pounds of black Eco complete, would it look back if I mixed it with garnet sand? The tank is a 6x2x2 180 gal.

Should I just go straight Eco Complete black? if mix with black or white sand will it look like an Oreo Blizzard?
Trying to find something to mix with the Eco complete that:
1. My polypterus can still bury in without getting scratched up
2. Looks reasonably decent?
3. Will allow plant growth.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder so no one can tell you that except you. What is do is get some Tupperware and mix the two together then put it in the tank so you can see how it looks.
Can’t help on the other 2.

Agree on trying it in a container first to see what you think. Even then some people start with something and change their mind after they live with it a while.

Not too sure about garnet with a fish that likes bury itself, considering garnet is used on some sandpaper and supposedly sharpens itself with abrasion. That said, I've never had garnet in a tank.

As far as plant growth, ime most sands are okay for low maintenance plants that don't need fertilizer as long as fish are in the tank.

Eco-complete was too coarse in my opinion for fish(polypterus who bury). Deciding to go with a finer grain. Switching to super naturals Golden sand. Hoping to be able to grow some plants in this. Has anybody had success with the Supernaturals sands? Do you use dry first or liquid ferts? Currently I used Flourish root tabs, and Flourish, but was dosing with potassium because my leaves were slightly transparent. Still trying to figure out this whole planted tank thing. The new tank is still not set up yet, but am open to any suggestions with the supernatural sand. Thank you.

I’m using liquid fertz. It’s in a kit that I mix with water to create a liquid fertilizer. Sand does work and will allow plants to grow. Depends on the plants ur wanting to grow.
