Hi i was just wondering if it was a bad idea to mix two different batches of fry together in a grow out tank?
My pair of flowerhorns laid there eggs first, but this was already their 8th or so batch and i'd learnt they were great parents so i left the fry till they were just free swimming till i moved them.
Roughly around the same time (just a few days after) my Oscars laid eggs as well, this was their third time to spawn, and both previous times were failures. So this time i wanted to save the eggs and i moved them to the growout, still on the slate rock they were laid on.
At this point the barely free swimming flowerhorn fry were already in the grow out, when i placed the slaterock in.. To be honest i didn't think the eggs would hatch, because of the previous attempts. But a few days later i noticed they did hatch, with the little tails wriggling and everything.

Now i have about over 300+ flowerhorn fry free swimming, and what looked to be 30 Oscar fry wrigglers. and i watched over them daily, till they were starting to hop around. Then the next day i couldnt find them anymore, i'm pretty sure they started free swimming but i can't tell the fry apart.

Does Anyone think this Was this a bad idea? Will the Flowerhorn fry kill the Oscars? Or will the Oscar fry be able to compete against the Flowerhorn Fry?

Wrigglers are great fry food.
But you might be lucky and they're all just free swimming together. You might have trouble with the smaller, younger fry competing with older fry for food, but at this stage I guess you'll just have to wait and find out if the oscars are still there once thay start to colour up.

Yeah i was worried about that to be honest, like the older fry snacking on the younger ones, cause i noticed a few flowerhorn fry picking on them.

But anyway, just yesterday i found a few fry dying, and they were much darker than the other fry, there was probably over a dozen, struggling. I'm guessing these guys are the oscars, cause they are very slightly different. I guess they couldn't compete as well for the food as the Flowerhorns, i'll hope i get atleast one out of the lot, but its looking doubtful.

Thank you for the reply bmxer4ever.
