I've just set up my tank and have been keeping 5 goldfish to get the cycle going. I'm planning on getting 4 small (1") rbps and want to know how long until the goldfish become food.

Won't last long. Gold fish are piranha food.

I know that they are food... I just was wondering how long until the p's get big enough to eat the gold fish.

It may not be a matter of time....The piranha may just bite off chunks of the goldfish until they die. The RBP's dont have to get big enough to eat the goldfish, becausse their teeth can take small chunks out of the goldfish. I dont think you want this to happen do you?? Cant you set up a different tank fo the RBP's?

Also, what size tank do you have?

One inch RPBs, your looking at 4 months or so. Ofcourse there will be some lossage of the fin before that.

Yeah, I was thinking about taking them out and putting them into a 10g tank until the piranhas are big enough to really eat them and not just harm them.

1" reds will probably eventually just gang up and kill all the goldfish 1 by 1. but if you feel safer move to the 10 gal till they are 2-3" and the goldfish will not last longer than a day
