Hey. the lfs can get in some really nice jewls. i am wondering if i can keep them with my convicts. Can i kepp them with blood parrots too? I have a little 2.5" one and a 7" big one. When they grow up (cons) i will move them in with my parrot in the 55 (jewls too). A have a clown knife but he seems to prefer guppies at this point. He has bite sized convicts and never touches them. So the evntual plan with be
55G: 7" blood parrot, 2.5" blood parrot, 8 young barred convicts, 4-5" Clown knife, a few jewls, 5" syno, 4" pictus.
This will leave my 45 free as a breeding tank for my red devil and big pink convict.
So, this sound like it can be done? I can always feed extra convicts to the (red) devil. 8 is just what i have now. What can i do to make them really nice and red?

the jewels will destroy the parrots, and with time, it is very likely that they will kill your cons. considering that jewels are known for killing adult dempseys and gts, i would watch VERY carefully if i was to add jewels to a community tank again.

i have a jewel in a tank with a con and i dont see any problems so far, they have been together for about 8 months

my bad my memory fails me, thanks to my son he just reminded me, i have failed with this mix before, the jewel and the con i was speaking of in the first post are in a tank with several other cichlids, jags, jacks,O's,Uro, etc. so maybe the jewel isn't as aggressive as normal. But when i had the same jewel in a 30 with a firemouth and a con all similar sized the jewel beat both of them down in about 3 days, thats why he graduated top the tank with the big boys

the little parrot is a pushover, but the big guy is different. he is a fighter. he can easily eat feeders, unlike other parrots
