Mixing loach species

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Some combos work, like Clowns with Botia. There are also some aggressive species out there that cant be with other loaches. There is a good sticky about this up top.

Jake, be careful how you name a fish. "Botia" applies dozens of species. That is not a specific term at all.

Is it ok to mix different loach species like clowns, striated/zebra, yoyo etc.
The ones you mentioned are fine. What species of loaches exactly are you planning to keep? Size of tank?

Clowns mainly, but If I got some I would probably want some more so I just wanted to be safe rather sorry later on. I couldnt specifically say what other loaches I would mix but ones such as striated/zebra, yoyo/polkadot etc. Clowns would be the first anyway. My tank is 525 litres/ 115 gallons and barebottom currently. I was thinking 6-10 clowns.

I had a blog post on this. Look below my avatar

Yoyos, zebras and kubs work just fine with clowns.
