Can I put my Red Jewels with my CA/SAs? I have GTs, FHs, Mayans, Texas Cichlids. My Jewels have fry in their tank, and the Texas Cichlids just had fry in the CA/SA tank. I am thinking of putting all the fry in the Jewels 35 gallon tank, and the Jewels in the 120. The water parameters are the same in both tanks.

jewels are always pretty aggressive and if they try anything like that with your devils or your texas am sure they will belly up before they even say hi to every one else in the tank

I had them in there a few months ago. They were in there for about a week. I seperated them, because all the other fish's fins were getting torn, but now the other fish are bigger, and before the Jewels were the biggest.

if you check on youtube you can see how crazy the jewel chcilids are
in one video a jewel is locking jaws with a FH nearly three times its size
but surely the FH would have done a job on that jewel

I have 3 Oscars and (approx) 10 Jewels (2 breeding pairs) together in a 300 gal Rubbermaid along with JD, GT, etc tank mates… The Jewels squabble amongst themselves but do not attempt to harass the others… The fry from both pairs are always eaten, usually by the Dempseys which have no problem pushing the pair out of their way…

I’ve kept breeding pairs of Jewels and breeding pairs of Convicts together as well… inch for inch the Convicts have proved far more capable of defending their fry against the Jewels than the reverse…

I have several male Jewels in a 125 gal with an adult Blue Dempsey and a couple others… The Blue Dempsey rules the tank with ease… The Jewels will challenge the Firemouth and the female Green Terror, but stays clear of the JD…

My experience with the 20 or so Jewels I’ve kept is that their aggression is far over rated… in both breeding pairs as well as singles…

the jewels generally could hold their own with big aggressive CA cichlids as long as the jewels aren't easily eaten. They, along with salvini and neets are my favorite lil' tough guys.
