Well. ummm yesterday I caught 6darter fish, and 2 baby chubs(darters are uncommon in nj lol).

Today I found a whopping load of northern hogsuckers. Caught 10 of em. Largest one is 2ft. And the smaller ones are 1 ft. or 8inchs. Haven't measured it throughly... Anywho... I just plopped em in my 55g native tank(the tank has a natural herbal medicine that i put yesterday that works against external parasites). Anywho. I hear they grow to 2ft long. I am wondering. If I can actually keep them? Even if its not in that 55g. I really really love them.

Ooops I think they're longnose suckers. Look like this.

How long do they live btw? They're soo cute even if they just sit there. The color is actually dark grayish on top and white belly. Think of a catfish(native one). And they look like this

P.s. P.s. Today they were spawning. Not really sure if that means anything. but the one I caught(I had to take the hook off and the fish ummm... I had to hold it slightly tight enough so it doesnt move and umm it kinda uhhh.... spermed in the water...

They look like large gobies in the sense they lay on the bottom and sometimes they use their fins as legs just to stand.

Personally i dont remove fish from their native waters during spawn, it may be illegal but you will have to see. I have 1 white sucker and he is getting too large for my 72 galaquarium. I wouldnt recommend getting a sucker of anysize unless you are ready to have a large tank for them.

How many and what size did you put in the aquarium? i wouldnt keep any fish bigger then 8" in a 55gal aquarium its just way to small.

I'm not positive on the NJ state laws, but in UT it is illegal to transport ANY fish to an aquarium from any natural body of water.

Actually what I am doing is quite legal. Not like I'm taking an endangered species. Or fishing for a species on a closed season. Plus. That would be the only time it'd be easy to catch them WITHOUT hurting them(i.e. no hooks were involved). I caught 10 of them. But let them go. I only kept 2 of them. Both are 6-8inch. I wouldn't mind a bigger tank. I've been wanting a large aquarium anyways... Currently they seem to be doing okay. Swimming about. The chubs just ate(same day lol. I know weird..).

Now these guys I know they feed on inverts, and plant matter. Wondering what would be the best staple that provides sufficient nutrition? Now considering that these will get to be 25inch long possibly(they're not the white kind actually). I'm wondering what tank would I need for them? And was wondering if I'm going to get a bigger tank. Say I want 6 of them and like say a community of chubs in with them(say 12chubs) A strong filtration system with uv(sump as well). What would be the minimum width needed for them and etc? I really really really like these fish. And since I work(yes it's cruddy pay, but enough that in a month or two I can have a bigger tank) well I just wanna know the ins and out of caring for them so I can keep them healthy and never ever get sick. :C

P.s. I would possibly like my newly caught darters to breed. Any suggestions? They're settling in nicely and seem to school together(6 of em) I'm not sure on genders. actually
