So I recieved an 8" MM on wed night and it is doing good other than the fact it hasnt been eating and has scratched portions of the underside of its disk on the corner of the overflow box. I've tried giving it rosey reds and nightcrawlers to no avail. Would it be alright to add aquarium salt to help the scratches heal? Ill be covering this corner with foam after I get off work, just noticed the scratches this morning before work. Also any ideas on what else I should try feeding? Its a wc mm and was previously feeding on guppies. For now im qting it in a 4x2x2 with a 40 gallon sump and mag12 pump. The only thing I can think of is it is still adjusting to the 7.8 pH, I spent over 2 hours drip acclimating it on wed night. The water in the shipping bag had a pH of 6.5

I would skip the salt and just keep the tank stable. As for the ray eating, try more then what you are trying to feed it now. IE, pellets, shrimp, black worms, ghost shrimp and so on.

If you are going to use salt, I would do 1/4 the amount as recommended. That's just me though.

Ok thanks Pete. I will give shrimp a try tonight, I tried a small piece of tilapia two nights ago, but it would not touch it.

+1 as well as ghost shrimp. I would also leave the lights off.

Thanks, the problem is the tank is in my room.

So i put a laundry mesh bag around my overflow last night, that should help with the scratching of the disk. Also added 5 table spoons of aquarium salt

Really clean water is all you need. But if you feel it necessary to add something just use a mild salt. Mortens solar rock salt, Kosher salt or aquarium salt will do. Pre diluted in a bucket of water or dumped in sump or overflow box. 1lb per 100g will do. No need to add any type of Medicine.
