so my male marble motoro has been swimming every so often with his tail up/curled after the black aro died (lost power to sandy). Also he last night was swimming around the tank like crazy spazing out. I noticed my water pump wasnt working to its original potential for some reason (maybe water backed into it or its just old) so i replaced it today maybe a loss of air in the tank i have done two water changes and everything, dont have anything to test water quality at the moment (quit my job so funds are low until i start my new one) and i no my water quality and i always do water changes on time, he is still eating and swims around fine, i did a filter cleaning in my fx5 and he seems to b good now and all but i was wondering what you guys think ? also is it possible he could maybe be a little brain dead ? from no power for 3 days... i had a air pump running but thats it...

Bad water for sure i have noticed while transport and aclimating to new "different" water tail whipping like you describe and iregular swimming he' or she isn't very happy bottom line!!!Thing is no matter how much you have worked to keep everyting somewhat normal right now it is not you have been through alot i am sure!!!!

yeah i think the water coming out of the tap had a little more chlorine or something. im gonna keep doing water changes. he is eating so well its weird. i need to test the tap water. and my tank water

i was also thinking maybe the shrimp i feed him went bad. Maybe from the supermarket, with the power going out from Sandy. just a thought

yeah i think the power being off for 3 days killed my good bio, so i have been doing 30% water changes daily, and feeding daily. so far so good. scott s what kind of ray is that ?

An air stone for 3 days would not suffice to keep your BB (beneficial bacteria) alive. If the canister was off for more than 20 to 30 minutes the bacteria would begin to die off (due to lack of oxygen). Definately your BB would be dead after 3 days. Once the filter came back on, the dead bacteria would be pumped into your tank polluting your tank water. Best thing to do is consistent water changes daily and get a test kit to monitor amonia and nitrites as your tank will have go theough a cycle period until your BB level gets established. Adding a product like Cycle to the tank after each water change would definately help. Rays don't tolerate poor water quality for very long. Another thing that will help is to cut down on the amount of feedings or feed smaller feeding to reduce amount of waste. With consistent water changes and careful monitoring, your ray will do fine.

yeah he has turned around a lot, i cleaned one of the canisters i have on the tank, and i have been doing water changes daily, i have had him so long so i can tell he is back in his comfort zone, and i will keep up with the water changes, i also dry the crap out of the market shrimp b4 i feed, to reduce pollution to the water. i have had fish for about 6 years and i never really like using chemical besides a chlorine remover. unless necessary what exactly is cycle and does any one els have any experience with it and how well it works ?
