MN Fishing opener 5/15/10

My dad and a friend of mine went fishing early on Diamond lake. He likes to walleye fish, so we did for the morning bite. Dad caught two yellow perch, and my buddy caught a real small walleye, aquarium sized ~6 inches. At about 12 we went in for lunch, and dad went to bed (he came fishing straight off his 12hr night shift) and my buddy and I went back out to a different lake. Ripley has always treated me well. I knew my ma wanted some fresh fish, so we trolled for a bit for some pike. The pike were a bit sluggish, only caught 2, but the bass must have been just post-spawn like 2 days or so, because they were extra aggressive. They were not in season, so we couldn't keep any (I never do anyway) but I didn't want to disrupt any spawning that may have been going on, but they were hitting everything. It was a blast. I caught 6-7 bass, and 1 pike, and my buddy caught 3 bass and 1 pike. It was a good day.
The next day I took my sister-in-law out sunny fishing, but only caught little perch. My little bro came with and put two small ones in his tank, but they died that night... I don't think we acclimated them long enough. Anyway, enough babbling. PICS!

my biggest bass was probably the same size as your last pics, is that a pike or a pikerel? i get confused with them somtimes because they have the same body just different colors.

Thats a Northern Pike. There are some pickeral around here, but I haven't ever caught one. I think the pike out-compete them in most lakes.
